CLIMATE-NEUTRALITY

WE ARE PIONEERS WHEN IT COMES TO CLIMATE NEUTRALITY

Everyone is talking about climate change. We are acting on it. And that’s been the case for 15 years. Innovative approaches, investments in new technologies, optimisations of processes - we have reached so many milestones already and are proud of the lighthouse projects we are implementing around the world.

We consider ourselves obligated to fight climate change - which is why we set ourselves the goal of climate neutrality already in 2008. Michael Durach Managing Director of Develey Senf & Feinkost GmbH

REACHING CLIMATE NEUTRALITY, STEP BY STEP

OUR PATH TO CLIMATE NEUTRALITY

We are making our way towards climate neutrality, step by step. After we recorded the emissions of greenhouse gases (Scope 1 & Scope 2) at our locations, we took measures to avoid and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Our final step is to compensate for the remaining greenhouse gas emissions through compensation projects and by planting trees.

HOW DO WE REDUCE?

In 2008, we set ourselves the goal of operating climate-neutral. Since then, we have been closely examining every plant and choosing the best-suited technologies for the respective locations:

Geothermal energy
•            Wood chip plant
•            Photovoltaics
•            Combined heat and power plant
•            Biogas plant
•            Environmentally-friendly refrigerants

WHAT HAVE WE ACHIEVED SO FAR?

  • 50% CO2 savings: Since 2011 we have reduced our CO2 footprint at our German plants by 50%.

  • 100% climate-neutral production: All our German plants have been producing climate-neutral since 2020.

  • 119,019 trees planted: In the last ten years we have already planted 119,019 trees for the climate.

GREEN TECHNOLOGIES ACROSS EUROPE

The production facilities in Bautzen, Pfarrkirchen and Vienna are supplying their own solar energy through photovoltaic systems.

The wood chip plant in Dingolfing ensures the entire heating supply for the production location. And it is CO2-neutral, because the regional untreated forest wood chips only release so much CO2 emissions during combustion as the wood has taken in during its lifetime.

At our plant in France, the wastewater is cleaned and processed so that it reaches drinking water quality. Residue from the wastewater and other organic waste from production is fed to the company’s own biogas plant. This in turn generates methane gas, which is combusted on site in a small power plant, providing electricity and heat.
